Ramallah - Ofoq News - The Palestinian factions are moving to postpone the Legislative Council elections that were scheduled to be held on November 28, in light of logistical difficulties related to holding the elections in the Gaza Strip, in addition to disagreements over preparations for the electoral process.
The decision to postpone came after discussions between Palestinian factions, amid continuing efforts to reach understandings regarding the next political phase, including the formation of electoral lists.
The impact of the postponement is not limited to the internal Palestinian arena, as the decision is expected to provoke reactions from donor countries that have exerted pressure to hold elections, according to what was reported by the Israeli website Ynet.
European countries and entities are among the most prominent supporters of the Palestinian Authority, and part of the international support over the past years has been linked to reform files, strengthening institutions and good governance.
In the same context, efforts are continuing to form an electoral list led by Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti, while contacts continue between the factions regarding participation in the elections and possible alliances.
Reports indicate that the possible postponement may prompt setting a new date for the elections during 2027, provided that this is done within the framework of a Palestinian consensus.
The position of donor countries remains one of the most prominent issues that may impose themselves after the postponement decision, especially in light of international support for holding elections and rearranging the Palestinian political system.
