“Preventing protests” and “curfew”... new decisions in France regarding demonstrations

- French authorities banned protests in cities such as Marseille and Lyon, and announced a curfew over the weekend in parts of Paris. The governor of the Bouches-du-Rhône district, in which the city of Marseille is located, announced a temporary ban on protests on Saturday, according to the BFMTV channel, affiliated with the Ofoq News network. The channel also reported that public transportation services in the greater Marseille area will be suspended, starting from five o'clock in the morning on Saturday until five o'clock in the morning on Sunday.

Cities outside Paris were greatly affected by the recent unrest. Reuters reported that protesters wearing black stormed the municipal building in Marseille and defaced it with chaotic expressionistic drawings, while protesters in Lyon set fire to the city's tourism office.

The Paris police announced the imposition of a curfew in the Place de la République and Les Halles areas, daily from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., during the period from Thursday to Sunday.
