Prime Minister of Jordan: The perpetrators of the Karak attack will be punished

Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan said that state agencies are working to arrest the attackers of the church in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate, “so that they receive the punishment they deserve.” The Jordanian Prime Minister renewed the government's condolences to the people of Karak and the families of the victims, calling for a speedy recovery for the injured, on the sidelines of his participation in the funeral ceremony for the bodies of the victims of the attack, on Sunday.

The official “Al-Mamlaka” channel quoted Hassan as saying that “extremism, extremism, and takfiri thought have spread over the past four decades,” stressing “the need to continue and intensify efforts to uproot these ideas from their roots,” and that “they have absolutely no place in this country and in this society.” Hassan stressed that “confronting extremism is not only a security battle, but also a battle of awareness and thought,” and warned that strife, fanaticism, racism, and extremism threaten the cohesion and stability of societies.

Thousands of mourners and official and popular figures participated in the funeral ceremony that was held in the vicinity of the church, and the bodies were carried on the shoulders of Public Security personnel and wrapped in Jordanian flags before they were buried. For his part, Minister of Government Communications and official spokesman for the government, Muhammad Al-Momani, said that the perpetrators of the terrorist crime “will not escape punishment,” stressing that protecting the lives, security, and dignity of Jordanians is a national responsibility that should not be compromised.

Al-Momani confirmed, in a post on the King Abdullah II had confirmed that Jordan would respond “firmly” to those responsible for the “terrorist act,” stressing that “Jordanian blood is precious and we will strike with an iron fist anyone who insults this country,” according to the official Jordanian News Agency (Petra).
