Egyptian artist Rahma Mohsen is embarking on a new artistic experience by releasing a full album, in a move she describes as a calculated risk, amid a growing trend in the music industry towards releasing single songs instead of albums. The artist relies on her feeling when choosing songs, and her ability to present works that reach the audience and express their feelings.
Although her name has been associated with popular music since her artistic beginnings, Rahma Mohsen seeks to expand her singing experience and engage in different musical styles, stressing that the audience remains the final word in evaluating her choices and determining the extent of their success.
The new album includes collaborations with a group of poets, composers, and music makers, including Madian, Mustafa Hadouta, Attar, Jordan, Ahmed Al-Maliki, and Mohammadi, along with a number of other participants in the work industry.
Rahma Mohsen's ambitions are not limited to singing, as she is experimenting with acting in the Ramadan drama, benefiting from her previous studies, which included acting, in addition to her experience in dealing with the camera through song clips.
In her interview with Al-Arabiya.net and Al-Hadath.net, Rahma Mohsen talks about the scenes of her new album, the reasons for her commitment to presenting a full album despite the production challenges, her relationship with popular music, and her ambitions to present various musical styles, in addition to her experience in acting and children’s love for it.
Why did you decide to release a full-length album at the present time, despite the music industry's trend towards singles?
I feel very happy about this step, especially since releasing a full album at the present time represents a great challenge and a risk as well. The music industry has become more complex, and production conditions are difficult, so many music makers have turned to releasing single songs instead of albums. But I was keen to go through this experience and present a complete album to the audience.
Do you consider the album an artistic adventure?
Certainly, and I see it as a calculated adventure, because presenting a full album requires a lot of effort, time, and cooperation with a number of music makers. We made a great effort to work on the songs, and in the end I leave success to God Almighty, and I await the audience’s opinion and interaction with the album.
What criteria did you rely on in choosing the songs for the album?
I always make sure to choose songs that touch my feelings and that I feel are close to me and to the people. For me, sincere feeling is the shortest way to reach the hearts of listeners, so I don't just look for a good song, but for a song that I feel and can deliver sincerely.
In your early days, your name was associated with the popular color. Has this color become an essential part of your artistic identity?
The popular color was the one that chose me in the beginning, because the audience loved me through it and supported me in it, and I appreciate that very much. But I have now reached a stage where I can present different singing colors, and I want to prove my presence in more than one musical style, and in the end the audience remains the one who has the say and the judge of what I present.
Who are the most prominent names you collaborated with on the album?
I collaborated with a distinguished group of poets, composers, and music makers, including Madian, Mustafa Hadouta, Attar, Jordan, Ahmed Al-Maliki, and Mohammadi, in addition to a large number of music makers who made a great effort to produce the album in a way that I hope the audience will like.
You are also experimenting with acting in the Ramadan drama. How did you find the transition from singing to acting?
Acting is not completely far from my studies, because I studied at the academy, and the acting subject was part of my studies, which gave me a good background that helped me work hard, learn and develop my performance. I also always try to learn from the same experience, whether in the way of performing, dealing with the camera, or expressing with the eyes.
Did your experience in filming music clips help you stand in front of the camera in dramas?
Certainly, because dealing with the camera requires awareness of expression, movement, and gaze, and these are things I also deal with through clips. But acting has its own tools, so I am keen to learn, work hard, and constantly develop myself.
How do you receive children's love for you on the street and on social media?
This makes me very happy and gives me great energy. The children’s love for me and their acceptance of me in the street and on social media is something exceptional for me. I consider it a great generosity and blessing from God, and I feel grateful towards every person who gives me this love.
After releasing the album, did you start thinking about your next artistic projects?
For now, I want to give the album its full due, and let the audience listen to its songs and enjoy them long enough. I don't want to rush to think about what's next before the album has had its chance, and then I can start planning next projects.
