US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday that President Donald Trump is open to any step that would end the Ukraine war.
Rubio denied to reporters in Uzbekistan that restrictions were being imposed on sharing intelligence information about Russian attacks with Kiev. He said that the exchange of intelligence information "has not been stopped", after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized his country's allies for failing to provide advance warnings of Russian ballistic missile strikes during the night.
He also added that he could not comment on the latest strikes, denying Zelensky's claim that important early warning data on Russian missile launches had been suspended last week.
Rubio added: "I don't know where he's getting these things from or why he's saying these things to the press. What he should be focusing on, and what we want to be focusing on, is putting an end to this war."
Zelensky said yesterday, Sunday, that the United States had resumed the exchange of intelligence information with Kiev, days after tensions escalated between him and US President Donald Trump due to Trump’s decision to suspend customs duties on Russia and conclude a diesel deal to buy Russian diesel.
But Zelensky said on Monday that more than 10 energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine were damaged as a result of a Russian attack that occurred overnight, which led to power outages for at least 550,000 households.
In his post, the Ukrainian president referred to “obstructing” the supply of missiles intended for Ukrainian air defense systems, while the United States eased or postponed the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Trump criticized his Ukrainian counterpart for what he said was Kiev's targeting of diesel refineries in Russia, and considered that these attacks caused "severe damage" to global diesel markets. This came in a post by Trump on the American “Truth Social” platform, on Sunday.
Trump said that he continues to hold peace talks related to the war between Russia and Ukraine, stressing that he does not want to take any step that might push Russia to “foolishly” move away from the negotiating table.
It is worth noting that on October 9, Trump announced that he had reached an agreement with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, stipulating that Russia would immediately supply the American and global markets with more than 300,000 tons of diesel, and an additional 500,000 tons during November, and then one million tons immediately after that.
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has launched a military attack on Ukraine, and to end it, it stipulates that Kiev abandons joining Western military blocs, which the latter considers “interference” in its affairs.
