The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condemnation in the "strongest terms" of the armed attack, which it described as "treacherous" in the southern region of Egypt, which claimed the lives of two border guard officers. A statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s condemnation and denunciation in the strongest terms of the treacherous armed attack in the southern region of the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, which led to the death of two border guard officers in the region.”
Riyadh continued in its statement: “The Kingdom expresses its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Egypt, affirming its full solidarity with Egypt in confronting any attempt to undermine its security, wishing continued stability for Egypt and its brotherly people.” The Egyptian army announced, Thursday, that it will begin implementing the fourth phase of the massive campaign to confront illegal gold prospecting in the Eastern Desert, next Saturday, stressing that the armed forces did not target civilians, but rather are working to protect the Egyptian borders and preserve the nation’s capabilities.
