- The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve spotted the sunset falcon, which is considered one of the rare breeding migratory birds in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to a statement published online on Saturday by the official website of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). This falcon arrives in the Kingdom during the migration and breeding season, coming from areas in and around Africa, where it spends the breeding season during the summer until fall.
According to what the official page of the reserve stated in a post on the “X” platform, previously Twitter, on Saturday, “the sunset falcon crosses thousands of kilometers to find in the Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve a safe haven for nesting and breeding.” The post was accompanied by a video clip showing the falcon among the towering rocky cliffs.
The agency's statement added that this species is distinguished by its association with specific nesting sites that it may reuse annually, which makes protecting them from disturbances and threats one of the important factors for its continued success in breeding within the reserve. Documenting the nesting of the sunset falcon in the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve is of special environmental importance, given its classification as a globally endangered and locally threatened species.
