The Lebanese army revealed, on Monday, the seizure of about 200 kilograms of explosive materials prepared for smuggling from Syrian territory to Lebanon, while the smugglers fled towards Syria.
The Lebanese Army reported, in a statement published on its account on the “X” platform, that a military unit seized the explosives in the Qasr area in Hermel, northeastern Lebanon, and they were packed inside bags in preparation for smuggling them across the border.
The statement pointed out that the operation came within the framework of the missions carried out by army units to monitor and control the Lebanese-Syrian border, with the aim of combating smuggling and preventing attempts at illegal infiltration.
The army confirmed that the seized materials were handed over to the competent authorities, indicating continued follow-up and coordination to arrest those involved in the smuggling attempt.
The statement did not announce the type of explosive materials seized or the identity of the smugglers who managed to escape into Syrian territory.
