On Monday, the Portuguese Football Federation imposed a penalty on the national team’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, after he withdrew from the team’s camp during the last international break. Ronaldo left his national team following a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus, after not participating in some European Nations League matches for the 2026/27 season.
The Portuguese Federation decided to suspend Cristiano for 30 days and fine him 255 euros ($285). The 41-year-old had previously said that Jesus “broke his promises,” apologizing to his teammates and the Portuguese fans after his withdrawal.
The Saudi Al-Nasr club star stressed his readiness to accept any punishment, especially because he wears the national team’s captaincy. The Portugal national team will play two matches in the European Nations League on the 14th and 17th of next month, against Denmark and Wales, respectively.
This means that Ronaldo may miss both matches.
