A court ordered the detention of the head of the Central Referees Authority of the Turkish Football Federation, Ferhat Gündoğdu, pending investigation into “corruption cases,” according to what Anatolia News Agency reported on Saturday. The Office for Combating Illegal Betting and Sports-related Crimes, affiliated with the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office, had begun an investigation against Ferhat Gundogdu and 6 other people.
The suspects face charges of “forgery of official documents,” “breach of trust,” and “obtaining personal data by illegal means.” The head of the Central Referees Authority of the Turkish Federation and the suspects appeared before a judge last Friday.
The judge decided to pretrial detention the head of the referees committee and four other people, while granting two conditional release. Anadolu reported that preliminary results indicate that Ferhat Gundogdu may be linked to these cases.
