US President Donald Trump told his supporters on Friday that he tried to convince the American technology company Google to name an ocean after him, but it rejected the proposal.
During a speech he delivered at an election rally in Georgia, Trump explained that he proposed to representatives of the Internet giant to rename the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean to “Trump’s Ocean.”
According to Trump, they responded angrily: “We've had enough. That's enough. We won't do more.”
Trump issued an executive order in 2025 to change the name of the “Gulf of Mexico” to “America’s Gulf,” and last August he gave the name “Lake America” to “Lake Ontario,” which is located on the border between the United States and Canada.
Google adopted the two amendments to its maps for users in the United States.
Trump told his supporters that he had sent Google a map called "Trump's Ocean," but company representatives rejected the idea.
Trump said he was just joking this time, but added that the idea was not the worst he had ever had.
Trump has long expressed his desire to rename an ocean. He also proposed the idea of renaming the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” in a clear attempt to provoke Iran, in light of the war between the two sides.
