Washington - Ofoq News - US President Donald Trump ruled out the possibility of using nuclear weapons against Iran, and made clear that he does not intend to send ground forces to the Islamic Republic.
In an interview with Newsmax that aired tonight (Friday), Trump was asked about a CNN report that the United States is considering using the GBU-43/B bomb, known as the "Mother of All Bombs," against Iran.
Trump neither explicitly confirmed nor denied the report, but responded, "If all the bombs are not a nuclear bomb, then they're not nuclear at all. It's just a very big bomb. It's like a small nuclear bomb, but if all the bombs are one big bomb, then it's not nuclear."
The president later added: "No, I will not use nuclear weapons against Iran. We don't need to do that. We are the largest nuclear power in the world."
During the interview, Trump was also asked about Israel, and he replied that Israeli officials were interested in his participation in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's re-election campaign. However, he declined to clarify whether he intends to interfere in the Knesset election campaign.
When the president was asked if he intended to participate in the Israeli election campaign, he replied: "Well, they would like me to participate. Yes, they would. Look, I had a very good relationship with him. We had joint successes."
But when Trump was asked if he personally trusted Netanyahu, he chose to answer generally about his attitude toward politicians: “Honestly, I don't trust anyone. I don't trust anyone. In politics, I don't trust anyone.”
The interview with Trump aired after CNN reported that the US military was preparing for the possibility of renewed fighting against Iran, and had drawn up new attack plans, including the potential use of a giant MOAB bomb, known as the "Mother of All Bombs."
The bomb, officially named GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, is the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal by weight. It contains approximately 10.3 tons of explosives, is GPS-guided, and is designed to cause widespread destruction over a very large area.
