Trump intends to change the name of artificial intelligence

Washington - Ofoq News - US President Donald Trump launched an attempt to rename “artificial intelligence” to “super intelligence,” but the initiative quickly faced a wave of ridicule and objection, and its unexpected repercussions reached Slovenia.

According to The National newspaper, Trump believes that the word “artificial” does not accurately express the capabilities of technology, and therefore he wants to adopt the term “superintelligence,” or its abbreviation in English, “SI,” within American government agencies. He repeated his proposal before the United Nations General Assembly and at a meeting held by the White House to discuss concerns related to the technology.

However, California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom challenged the new trend, announcing that he had signed an executive order confirming the designation of “artificial intelligence” within the state. He wrote sarcastically on the “X” platform: “You are welcome, America.”

A linguistic lapse made the situation even more embarrassing, after the name “United States” was spelled incorrectly in the executive order signed by Trump to change the term. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also had to correct himself during a public speech, after he used the term "AI" before correcting the matter and replacing it with "SI."

Experts warn that the proposed name may cause scientific confusion, because the term “super artificial intelligence” was originally used to describe a hypothetical concept of technology that exceeds human capabilities in thinking and advanced cognitive functions.

The renaming attempt comes amid rising public concerns about the effects of artificial intelligence. A recent poll showed that about 73% of American voters oppose the establishment of artificial intelligence data centers in their regions, while nearly eight out of ten voters preferred to focus on safety rather than the race to dominate the development of this technology.

As for the surprising beneficiary, it was Slovenia, as the company “CloudFlare” monitored an increase in the registration of electronic domains ending in “.si” following Trump’s announcement, noting that this extension is the national domain allocated to the small European country.
