A short video clip of a police officer inside the subway in Egypt sparked a wave of controversy and criticism, before the Ministry of Interior announced a firm decision regarding it.

The video has spread among Egyptians over the past few hours on social networking sites, showing a person wearing civilian clothes. However, the presence of a weapon attached to him indicated that he was a policeman.

The video also showed the man collecting money from a number of street vendors, amid reports that he also collected bribes from them to ensure their continued movement within the metro.

On the other hand, the security authorities moved quickly, and the Ministry of Interior issued a statement yesterday evening, Thursday, confirming that the service of a police officer had been terminated for violating the requirements of his job duty inside a metro car.

The Ministry's quick and firm decision received wide praise among social media users. Many expressed their appreciation for the Ministry’s role in maintaining security and stability and its non-compliance with any practices that harm society’s view of police officers.
