The Minister of Government Communications and official spokesman for the Jordanian government, Dr. Muhammad al-Momani, confirmed that Jordan carried out strikes in southern Syria after it “ran out of patience,” and announced the formation of a joint committee to follow up on the repercussions of the operation against ISIS and develop coordination in combating the terrorist organization, according to statements he issued on Tuesday. Al-Momani previously said on his page on the “X” platform, Twitter: “Yesterday’s bombing came after Jordan ran out of patience with the movements of terrorist organizations and their targeting of national security,” noting that there has been “institutional and continuous coordination for years between Jordan and Syria in fighting terrorism and arms and drug smuggling.”
The Minister of Government Communications added, "The operations were carried out based on field information to neutralize confirmed threats and terrorist operations against Jordan." Al-Momani pointed out that there were “huge losses among ISIS’s ranks, estimated at more than 20 members, and the destruction of a huge weapons depot for the organization.”
The Jordanian minister continued by saying: "Jordan has refrained from targeting sites where information indicates the presence of civilians, and we regret the occurrence of civilian casualties." He added: "Jordan always takes all precautions that would not harm civilians." The Jordanian government spokesman said: “Jordan attaches the same importance to the lives of innocent civilians outside its borders as it gives to the lives of Jordanians,” and spoke about “forming a joint committee to follow up on the repercussions of the operation against ISIS, and developing coordination in combating the terrorist organization.”
Al-Momani added: “No one can doubt Jordan’s commitment to Syria. We hosted the Syrians, stood by them, and provided them with continuous support.” He continued: “The Kingdom seeks to stand by sister Syria, support its security, strengthen its unity and internal front, and enhance its presence at all levels.” The Jordanian government spokesman said: "Jordan is coordinating with international parties for the safety of Syrian territories, ensuring its unity and stability, and repelling its ambitions, especially in southern Syria."
The Jordanian Air Force carried out raids on Monday evening on areas in southern Syria, targeting the sites of "terrorist organizations" in response to the attack that targeted a church in Karak on Friday. The Syrian Ministry of Health indicated that there were casualties among civilians in Daraa Governorate as a result of this operation.
