The Yemeni government announced the killing and injury of more than 600 civilians and the displacement of about 200,000 people, as a result of the recent wave of escalation by the Houthi militia in Yemen, during last September.

The Yemeni Minister of Human Rights, Mishdal Muhammad Omar, said that the recent wave of escalation by the Houthi militia resulted, according to a preliminary outcome as of September 30, in the killing of more than 250 civilians, the injury of more than 360 others, and the displacement of about 200,000 people. He held the militias responsible for the continued deterioration of the humanitarian and human rights conditions in Yemen and the grave violations to which civilians, especially children, are exposed.

This came in the Republic of Yemen’s speech before the Human Rights Council at its sixty-third session in Geneva, and reviewed the effects of the escalation on civilians and health and educational facilities, the continued recruitment of children, the exploitation of migrants, and the detention of United Nations employees and humanitarian workers, in addition to the threat to international navigation, according to the ministry’s information.

The minister explained that the ministry was able to obtain information about 50 dead and wounded victims of the bombing of convoys of displaced people fleeing from Hays to Al-Khawkhah, noting that the bodies of some victims were burned and charred as a result of the bombing.

He also reviewed the killing of three children in a Houthi attack targeting the village of Al-Tarirah in Taiz Governorate on September 17, including a girl who was less than a year and a half old, in addition to the arrival of about three thousand people to the Republic of Djibouti as the escalation continues and the humanitarian situation worsens.

He stressed that the recruitment and use of children in the armed conflict represents one of the most serious violations committed by the terrorist Houthi militias, which have turned schools, summer centers and other civilian facilities into tools for mobilization, indoctrination and conscription, and have pushed children into a military environment that deprives them of education and protection and threatens their lives and future, noting that the United Nations has documented cases of children being recruited and used in military and field roles by the Houthi militias.

He stated that the effects of the attacks extended to health facilities and medical services in Taiz, Hodeidah, Ma’rib, and the western coast, as services were disrupted in 26 health facilities supported by UNICEF, which affected the ability of civilians, displaced people, the wounded, and the sick to obtain the necessary care.

He also touched on the militias' looting of warehouses, clinics, and medical facilities funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and the targeting of the Saudi field hospital as part of the attacks that targeted Al-Khawkhah, the port of Mokha, and other civilian and service facilities.
