The official spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Colonel Majid Al-Nuzaili, announced on Wednesday evening that the Houthi militias targeted Al-Rayyan International Airport in the city of Mukalla, Hadhramaut Governorate, for the fourth time.
Colonel Al-Nazili confirmed in a statement that targeting airports represents targeting the capabilities of the Yemeni people, and aims to impose a siege on them.
For his part, the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, said that the Houthi group’s targeting of Aden International and Al-Rayyan Civil Airports, on Wednesday, reveals the nature of the group and confirms its continued threat to civilians and vital infrastructure in Yemen.
During his meeting with the ambassadors of a number of countries accredited to Yemen, Al-Alimi touched on the Houthi escalation, pointing to the targeting of Aden and Al-Rayyan airports, and the accompanying attacks on residential areas and other civilian facilities.
He stressed that targeting civilian airports and residential neighborhoods, and depriving residents of basic services, reveals the nature of the group and shows the use of civilians, the interests of peoples, and the security of the region as means of blackmail, warning that dealing with these threats without decisive measures gives the group an opportunity to commit more violations.
Al-Alimi called on the international community and friendly countries to take a tougher stance towards the Houthis, support efforts to classify the group as a terrorist organization at the global level, and unify efforts to confront their threats to security and stability.
He stressed that the international community is now required to move from condemnation to practical steps to prevent the flow of weapons and technologies to the Houthis, and dry up their sources of funding, thus limiting their ability to target civilians and vital installations in Yemen.
