Zelensky: Russia bombed energy facilities in Ukraine after Trump announced the truce

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia, on Sunday, of targeting energy facilities in Ukraine after US President Donald Trump's sudden announcement of a ceasefire agreement reached between Kiev and Moscow.

Zelensky said on Facebook, following a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, “The Russians struck a power plant in Kiev, and later, strikes targeted energy facilities in the Kharkiv region. All of this happened after the American president made his statement regarding a ceasefire in the energy sector.”

US President Donald Trump confirmed earlier on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to refrain from targeting energy facilities, the day after he criticized the strikes carried out by Kiev on oil facilities belonging to Moscow.

Trump said in a post on his “Truth Social” platform: “Ukraine has agreed not to bomb Russian energy targets, and Russia has agreed to do the same!”

Trump's statement came without going into additional details.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that he was not aware of Trump's announcement regarding the energy truce, but that he was ready to accept it if the Russians agreed, according to the Axios website.

He also added, according to the website, that Ukraine is waiting for the US President to announce the date on which the truce will enter into force.

Earlier, Zelensky had announced his country's readiness to stop its attacks on Russian oil refineries, provided that Moscow stops its attacks on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine, stressing that any steps aimed at reducing the intensity of the conflict between the two countries must be based on the principle of reciprocity, and be accompanied by real guarantees that guarantee adherence to them.

Zelensky said in a message posted on the Telegram application that Ukraine is ready to take steps that would reduce the escalation if Russia shows a similar willingness to stop targeting Ukrainian energy facilities, in light of the continuing military confrontations between the two sides and their effects on vital infrastructure.
