Israeli preparedness for the possibility of a surprise attack from Iran and its allies... and estimates of continued calm before the elections

Tel Aviv - Ofoq News - A state of security alert prevails in Israel in anticipation of the possibility of a sudden escalation with Iran and its allies in the region, despite Israeli estimates that it is likely that no Israeli or American attack will be launched on Tehran before the Israeli and American elections.

According to a report published by Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper on the Ynet website, Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump may avoid risking a large-scale military operation before the elections, fearing its political repercussions.

But the report indicated that the possibility of escalation still exists, amid Israeli fears that an Iranian move or an attack carried out by the Houthis in Yemen or one of Tehran’s allies could drag the region towards a broader confrontation.

Estimates also warned of the danger of military miscalculations, when one party believes that the other party is preparing to attack, so it initiates a pre-emptive strike, which may ignite an unplanned confrontation.

In this context, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir held an assessment of the situation in Central Command, and told the commanders that the abundance of warnings on various fronts and the sensitivity of the stage had raised the possibility of escalation.

For his part, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon warned Iran and Hezbollah against exploiting the election period, vowing to respond, which he described as devastating, to any attack targeting Israel.

The report indicated that the decision on any Israeli attack on Iran is largely linked to Washington’s position, at a time when, according to sources quoted in the report, Trump’s final position has not been decided.
