US President Donald Trump sought to downplay the US war with Iran on Tuesday, considering it “not a war in the true sense,” compared to World War II or the Russian-Ukrainian war. Trump said during an interview on the Fox and Friends program coinciding with the start of the midterm elections: “When we talk about war, this is not a real war.
I mean, we hit them really hard at the beginning, and that was about it. "We eliminated their nuclear capabilities, and destroyed everything they had."
The real war is what we see in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine; That's war. Or as it was in World War II, where the fighting continues without stopping.”
He continued, "We have them completely under control; we can eliminate them, or we can be kind and let thousands of people survive, those who would have been killed if it were an actual war. But when was the last time we actually fired?"
His statements come in the wake of the US military carrying out limited strikes on the Iranian island of Qeshm, on Monday, according to what three American officials told Ofoq News Network, where they described this step as defensive and aimed at protecting American interests in the region. When asked what would happen after Election Day, Trump hesitated in his answer between launching strong strikes against Iran or not doing so.
Look, I'm not looking to kill masses of people, but if we have to, we will.
