- US President Donald Trump said that he faces a “big decision” regarding Iran, between concluding a major agreement with it or “annihilating” the Islamic Republic, while he expressed his belief that the United States may conclude an agreement with Tehran after the midterm congressional elections. The American President noted, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, on Tuesday: “I have a big decision to make: Will an agreement be concluded with Iran that will allow it to rebuild and transform into a much greater country than it was before - and perhaps become one of the greatest countries in the Middle East or even in the world?”
Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic quickly, without giving it any opportunity to kill and destroy peoples and countries again?" He went on to ask: "Do I push them into hell without any chance of survival and without any hope of achieving future greatness for generations to come?", before adding: "But I believe that we will conclude an agreement immediately after the elections; "It makes no sense for them not to do so."
He continued: "They are waiting to see how I will perform in the midterm elections. What they do not realize is that I am not a candidate in them. I have gone through that experience before and achieved a landslide victory."
Trump said, "When I took office last year, I began negotiations with Iran and offered them full economic cooperation in exchange for ending their nuclear program and stopping their support for terrorism, but they refused, and that was a huge mistake. They were bullying in the Middle East, but they are not that way anymore."
Trump stressed that he would not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, and stated that “Iran’s goal is to complete its nuclear bomb hidden behind this shield of conventional ballistic missiles. If they succeeded in doing so, that evil regime would be free to spread terror and death forever.”
He added that the Iranians “made a missile capable of hitting Europe, and they were very proud of that.” Trump considered that “there is no better example of a threat that was allowed to strengthen - posing a threat to the world - than the number one sponsor of terrorism: the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
