The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, appreciated the position of the members of the UN Security Council in their presidential statement regarding the attacks launched by the terrorist Houthi militia on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Budaiwi stressed that the Council’s condemnation of these attacks represents a clear international message rejecting the continued targeting of the Kingdom and its national capabilities, and threatening the security of maritime navigation and international trade lanes.

In a related context, Al-Budaiwi explained that the importance of the statement is embodied in affirming the responsibility of the international community towards stopping these violations, and not allowing the Houthi militia to continue to obtain weapons and support that fuel its attacks.

He pointed out that the full implementation of Security Council Resolution No. 2216 (2015) represents an international commitment whose requirements must be fulfilled, in a way that contributes to putting an end to these practices that threaten the security and stability of the region.

The Secretary-General also affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council views the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a fundamental pillar of the common Gulf security system, and that the GCC countries stand in a unified and decisive position alongside the Kingdom, and support it in all the measures it takes to defend its sovereignty, maintain its security, and protect its citizens and residents of its lands.

In a statement issued by the President of the Council, the UN Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the continuing and escalating attacks launched by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia, including attacks that targeted civil aviation and energy infrastructure, and resulted in the death and injury of civilians.

A statement issued by the Council President stated that this includes “the reckless strikes that targeted King Khalid International Airport” on October 10 and 11, causing deaths and injuries, in addition to multiple strikes that targeted other airports and Saudi Aramco facilities.
