Former US President Barack Obama said on Saturday that he understands the difficulties faced by Abd al-Rahman al-Sayyid, the Democratic Party candidate for Senate in the state of Michigan, due to the attacks launched by Republicans targeting his name. President Donald Trump has promoted a false conspiracy theory claiming that Obama was not born in the United States, and he continues to focus his speech on Obama's middle name, "Hussein."
During a campaign rally earlier this month, Trump incorrectly referred to Abdelrahman El-Sayed as “Mohammed” and falsely claimed that the Democratic candidate was a “jihadist.” These statements have become a recurring part of Trump’s recent campaign rallies and in his comments on social media. "They will resort to lies, fearmongering, and division. They may even use your name or beliefs to suggest that you pose a danger, that you lack trustworthiness, or that you are less patriotic and less American than them," Obama said at an election rally in support of Abdulrahman al-Sayyid and other Democratic candidates in Michigan in Detroit.
I was a champion in it, and I have a detailed birth certificate to prove it,” stressing that the Republican attacks will not work against Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyid either, as he said: “These methods did not work with me, especially here in Michigan, and they will not work with Abdul. Abdul was born here and grew up here. His parents worked in the automobile industry, and he himself played American football in Bloomfield Heights.”
