Washington - Ofoq News - US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said that the Iranian economy is facing increasing pressure, pointing to the decline in the value of the local currency and the halt of oil loading on Khark Island, in light of US measures aimed at reducing Iranian oil exports and drying up Tehran’s funding sources.
Besant explained that the United States has not monitored oil loading operations at the Khark Island oil facility since last August, adding that Iran does not currently have, according to his estimates, oil shipments at sea, which he likened to the situation of a company headed toward bankruptcy.
He added that Washington knows the entities that provide services to the Iranian regime, noting that it observed a sudden cessation in some of these activities, as part of tightening control over the networks that help Tehran export oil and manage its revenues.
In the context of his talk about the Iranian internal situation, the US Treasury Secretary said that signs of panic began to appear, according to his assessment, in public and private statements issued by Iranian officials and figures in the Revolutionary Guard.
Besant touched on the economic conditions in Iran, saying that the local currency had collapsed, and noting that the inflation rate had exceeded 100%, while it was likely that the Iranian economy had shrunk by more than 10%.
