The Saudi Lynx team from Dhahran achieved first place in the world in the finals of the Aramco Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) race, which concluded its competitions in Singapore, topping 91 teams from various countries of the world, in what is the first achievement for Saudi Arabia since the beginning of its participation in the competition.
The competitions, which were held from September 29 to October 7, 2026, witnessed a remarkable Saudi presence, after the participating teams won three additional awards, in addition to achieving first place globally.
The “Baz” team from Jeddah won the “Best Project Management” and “Elimination Round” awards, while the “Linx” team won the “Best Team Identity” award.
The Saudi teams registered nominations for more than 15 out of 22 awards in the competition, and also achieved a presence in the top ten places, in competitions that tested the students’ abilities to design models of Formula cars, project management, and research and development.
The Kingdom was represented in the global finals by four teams: “Links” from Dhahran, “Baz” from Jeddah, “Anq” from Medina, and “Drain” from Al-Ahsa.
Its qualification came after the national qualifiers hosted by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture “Ithra” last June, with the participation of 20 teams, of which the four first-place teams qualified.
The male and female students went through a preparation and training journey that lasted more than eight months, under the supervision of 36 male and female trainers, which focused on developing scientific and engineering skills, project management and teamwork, and transforming ideas into practical, testable models.
The acting head of the programs department at Ithra, Farah Abu Shalih, confirmed that the achievement reflects the capabilities and talents of Saudi youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
She pointed out that the arrival of a Saudi team to the top of the global competition after five years of participation represents an important milestone in the program’s journey, and a source of inspiration for future generations of innovators and engineers.
In conjunction with the global achievement, Ithra continues its preparations for the sixth edition of the Saudi STEM Race, after announcing last August the opening of registration, with the training trip for participants starting in early December 2026.
The program, which was launched in 2022, targets male and female students in the Kingdom’s schools, through an educational experience that combines science, engineering applications, and competition, and qualifies participants to participate in international competitions.
