The Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, described the attack that took place in a church in the Jordanian Karak Governorate as a “terrorist attack,” noting that “the crime contradicts the teachings of the heavenly religions,” in his first comment on the shooting that occurred on Friday. The Sheikh of Al-Azhar wrote on his page on “X”: “Our hearts are with our people in the sisterly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, regarding the sinful terrorist attack that occurred on a church in Karak Governorate, targeting innocent and safe people, in a crime that contradicts the teachings of the heavenly religions, and reveals the perpetrators’ devoid of all meanings of mercy, humanity, and morals.”
Ahmed Al-Tayeb continued by saying: “Our sincere condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims and their loved ones, and our wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured. We pray to God to protect dear Jordan and its brotherly people from all harm and evil, and to perpetuate upon them and upon our country the blessing of security, peace and stability.” The attack has claimed the lives of 7 people so far and injured 27 others, according to the latest update by the Jordanian authorities.
