Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Sunday that achieving an urgent, comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue is the only way to establish peace and stability in the Middle East region, stressing the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
During a joint press conference held today by President Sisi with his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto, following the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding between the two countries in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, the Egyptian President affirmed that developments in the Palestinian issue captured a major and important aspect of the bilateral discussions, reiterating Egypt’s categorical and decisive rejection of any attempts aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their land, imposing demographic change, or liquidating the Palestinian issue.
President Sisi condemned the ongoing Israeli practices and violations against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, stressing the necessity of full and sustainable access for humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip to stop the tragedy that the Palestinians are experiencing there.
Regarding regional and international issues of common concern, President Sisi stressed Egypt’s full support for all sincere efforts aimed at reducing escalation and achieving calm in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, in a way that preserves the security and safety of international navigation and regional stability.
During the discussions, President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's firm position regarding the existential importance of the Nile River to the Egyptian people, stressing that it represents a national security issue that cannot be tolerated.
The Egyptian President had arrived at the Halim military base in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, on an official visit to Indonesia as part of an Asian tour that included South Korea and Malaysia to discuss bilateral relations, regional issues, and enhance joint cooperation.
